Good news!!! The Phoenix Fire Department has the dates for the upcoming 2008 test for Firefighter.

Before you read the bottom some very important things to go over:  first, you will need your Emergency Medical Basic certification (EMT) by the date of hire.  Thus you can take the written exam and take the physical but you will need it by the time you are hired.  EMT classes start soon so contact one of the community colleges that offer it.  Go to this link http://joinpfd.com/localclasses.html

The 2008 testing information is as follows:

1) Application Period:  February 25 - 29, 2008   - This week ONLY!!!!!  Applications can be picked up at the City of Phoenix Personal Office at:

135 N. 2nd Avenue
Phoenix, AZ 85003
Main Number: 602-534-3467
or
downloaded at www.phoenix.gov/fire

2) Written Test: April 7, 2008   -  This day ONLY  !!!! You must have your application you picked up during the week of February 25th-29th 2008.  The Written test will be held the Phoenix Convention Center in Downtown Phoenix.

3) If you pass the written exam, you will be invited to take the Candidate Physical Ability Test.  Dates To Be announced sometime after the written exam.

4.      If you pass the CPAT exam, you will be placed on an eligibility list (good for one year.  ex.  Aug 08- Aug 09)

5.      Depending on how well you score is dependant on when you will be invited to an interview.  An interview can happen anytime during the one year period.

6.      Once you are invited to an interview and pass, you will then be invited to a 2nd interview.

7.      If you are selected to continue on in the hiring process, you would be called and set up for hiring.

8.      Once you passed all the required processes for hiring, you will start the Training Academy as a paid firefighter recruit, the Academy is 12 weeks long, and the probationary period is from the day starting the academy until one year later.  It does not cost the new hire anything.   (You can't just sign up to attend it, it doesn't work that way).
