Must be at least 18 years of age by February 28th 2008


Must have the ability to read and comprehend written material at the grade 14 level.


Have a High School Diploma or GED


Must possess the mental, physical and medical health to adequately perform the duties of a firefighter.


Must have or be able to obtain a valid Arizona Driver’s License (operator, class D) and have maintained a good driving record (fewer than 8 points the previous 3 years).


Emergency Medical Technician Certification
Proof of Valid certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the state of Arizona or National Registry is required at the scheduled date of your final selection interview with the Phoenix Fire Department. This course is offered at most local Community Colleges. To locate a class for EMT you can visit the Arizona Department of Health Services web site at: http://www.hs.state.az.us/bems/courses.htm


Candidate Physical Ability Test
Proof of successful completion of a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) from a licensed agency (local community college, private testing agency, etc.) within 12 months is required at the scheduled date of your final selection interview.

Fingerprints of all applicants will be taken prior to each part of the examination process for identification and validation purposes.


Subject to a pre-employment drug-screening test. Periodic drug screening tests will be required by the Phoenix Fire Department. Also No tobacco use of any kind.


Following employment, candidates must live inside Maricopa County within 24 months.
